i suppose if u want ur detect test worked out with no bias it should be at least under d condition that the testee s NOT AWARE of being TESTED. which u apparently cant do with this machine . want a real polygragh, try harder

what if you simply dont feel bad about what you did? also, would for example biting your toung (causing pain) help?

This is true. My mom was up for a relatively low security (data entry) job with the FBI and had to take a polygraph. She got nervous over some of the questions and flunked questions like: 1. have you ever plotted to overthrow the US gov't 2. do you sell drugs She's a super responsible, yet a little nervous, mom of 2 and grandma of one whose total criminality is probably smoking like 10 joints in the 70's. So you can tell it's accurate. Needless to say, she didn't get hired.

Polygraph's are still used so much in LE and Criminal Justice that it makes me sick.

MRI scanning in combination with display of photos are better. Showing images that a suspect could not have seen can provoke the visually perceptive regions of the brain to remember and rebuild the scenario in the mind. This is beyond conscious control, trials and matters of utmost importance should use modern instruments to search for lies and deception.

If you have problems with anxiety, you will fail the entire polygraph test, not just the critical questions, and so the results would be invalid. Easy questions like your name and age show up as lies because of how nervous you are, which discredits the polygraph as an actual lie detector.

Well for 1 I don't trust the machine, and 2 I can control myself, I suffer from anxiety attacks, I don't lose control & have anxiety attacks. These machines only test whats going on internally, heart rate, perspiration, breathing, etc, not thoughts. & to me fluctuations in regular bodily functions dont necessarily indicate lying or truth. Suppose they ask you if you have used drugs recently but you have been sober for months & mere mention of using makes you anxious, they may consider you a liar

@Celtic505 how can you trust the machine if u can't even take control of yourself? of course, things like medical histories must be assessed at first before conducting the exam...

I suffer from intense panic attacks and anxiety disorder for about 5-6 years now (Im 22) and through trial & error Ive learned to control them enough to live a semi-normal life, hold a job, school, friends, etc. It took a while to figure out, a lot of times I get a wave of anxiety for no reason or when ppl mention certain things, Ive always feared taking a polygraph b/c the slightest fear may turn into full blown panic, making me fail even if I told the truth. So I dont trust them scientifcally

They left out the "spiel" that the examiner says to the subject before starting the exam. It's usually a threatening overstatement of the polygraph's accuracy, and it either scares or enrages the subject. As a former investigator, I've seen someone repeatedly 'blow' a chart because they were nervous or had medical issues that interfered with heart rate, etc.

They are not used in europe at all. Nor in Australia. It hardly makes a country 'advanced' to use pseudoscientific technology. Advanced countries usually leave the woo woo behind.

And France, the UK, Italy, All the rest of europe, even mexico has them for gods sake, even every single middle easter country. Leave your house and stop bieng cought in the lie that the us is like the awsome advanced country or anything like that.

how stupid!!! how can you say that the man subjected 4 polygraph examination is telling the truth where in fact he is really lying if the questions which were asked are not even related to him? think about this...will those questions make you sweat heavily? or maybe make your heart rate beat faster? his point of view is a nonsense...really foolish!!!

I just took one for the LAPD. My first time. The eximaner tried to tell me it was like being afraid in combat. He asked how I felt in Iraq, and if I was ever afraid in a gun fight. What he tried to do is make me believe without a doubt, this fucking peice of shit machine will work, so that if I believe it to be a lie detector, thats exactly what it would do. So I pretended to believe his bullshit story. Let me tell u, this fucking machine dosent work for a god damn thing.

They'd notice that you are overreacting to innocuous questions. The machine can't read minds but the operators can certainly recognise anomalous outputs, and they'll know all about the little "countermeasures" tricks too.

Notice what? That you're overreacting on control questions in the same way as a "truthful" person would do? The polygraph isn't a mind reader.

But wouldn't a trained operator notice that and realise that you were trying to pull a fast one?
